DEF Truck Loading Expansion

Lima, OH

This truck-loading-expansion project enabled one of the world’s top fertilizer producers to process and load diesel exhaust fluid (DEF) at the company’s nitrogen plant in Lima, Ohio. Our challenge was to develop a highly sophisticated loading process that would be new to our client. As a result, truck drivers can now control the innovative top-loading process, eliminating the need for additional load-operations personnel.

  • The expansion included four loading scales, a motor control center building, and a one-million-gallon tank for urea
  • JDI designed a prill dissolver as a backup when urea is not available for making DEF
  • JDI provided civil, structural, process mechanical, and controls engineering services on this project
  • The $7.4 million undertaking took just one year from start to finish
