Implemented to address Title IX compliance issues, the multi-purpose building attaches to the existing Indoor Athletic Practice facility and houses a team room, offices, locker rooms, showers, and restroom facilities. An outdoor pavilion provides space where spectators and athletes can enjoy refreshments during practices and matches.
During the schematic design phase, JDI created multiple renderings for EMU to show how the new addition would connect to the existing building and how it would affect its overall look. (The same was done for the Oestrike Baseball Stadium when JDI provided EMU with options for dressing up the Stadium façade.)
Designed to NCAA standards, the tennis courts include dramatic entranceways and landscaping to provide a social connection between the courts and the rest of the athletic campus. JDI also relocated the discus/hammer throw, shot put, and javelin areas. A new 177-space parking lot expansion connects to the existing lot via a tri-level concrete stairway.
